The Beginning....

The Beginning....
When William Least Heat-Moon toured the country many years ago, his steed, if you will, was a van that he named Ghost Dancing. His journey of America was 13,000 miles. His book is Blue Highways, A Journey Into America. My steed will be a Subaru WRX (traded for an XV Crosstrek). My travels will be, what in the past were called, the blue highways of Virginia. Years ago, maps showed secondary roads in blue. Yes, the ones less traveled.

Ahh, How Sweet it is. Yes, Easter and April Fools' Day Sharing a Holiday!!!

Our local paper had an article yesterday. Yes, on the
great goings-on in a Catholic church. Little kids going to the front of the church and kissin' Jesus'  feet, for cryin' out loud. And, priests and other church officials
lying prostrate for heaven only knows what reason. And, man oh man, did they all have serious looks to go with their finest of tacky costumes. And, you guys are paying for all of this stuff.

Kids kissin' feet!!!!! Pretty darn weird and creepy.

And, dang. NASCAR doesn't even race on Easter Sunday.

EDIT: Just found this on IMG. Couldn't resist.

Just found another....

Wow, There are Some Amazing Folks Among Us! The Real Rocket Man!

Elon Musk should hire this fellow!

Here's the CBS news article/

More Religious Bullshit! Sanctuary in a Church!

First off, I have the greatest sympathy for most of
the folks who are in our country illegally. Of course, the ones who I am talking about are the ones who came here for a better life...those who have worked hard, have no criminal history, are good citizens, and so on.

That said, it's religious bullshit that they can run in a church and ostensibly, the police and ICE and such will not breach the churches' entry.

I did a quick search and thankfully, there doesn't seem to be an actual law keeping the officials from going in the church and dragging the person out. Seems there's a long tradition of not doing that. Yes, I could be wrong about all of this, though I don't think I am.

What we need is a way of doing something to help these folks work toward citizenship; however that would happen and however long it would take.

Then we have you-know-who still flapping his jaws about a fence. Ahh, now he seems to be trying to use money allocated for the military to build his fence that's not going to solve any problems.

Here's the article about the lady and her children living in a church.

Please Meet Pat Condell

It would seem vigorous debate and discussion is the bedrock of moving our knowledge forward. Too many, if not most, religious people refuse to take a second look at their beliefs. Of course, some of this may be the fear that old God will know they are possibly doubting Him and they'll burn in Hell, forever. Dang, doesn't sound like a good way to live-always in fear.

Seriously folks, debate, and discussion do move us forward. It seems we can debate anything but religion. Religious folks think their beliefs are special and should not be subject to scrutiny or doubt. Does that actually make any sense?

I surely can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I've gathered lots of

knowledge from debates and occasionally actually change my views. Hey, folks,
debate is healthy for us. Try it sometime.

Here's a link to Pat Condell's site.

“Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus.” – Thomas Jefferson

Trump Speaks at National Prayer Breakfast.... And, so it Goes....

Prayer, prayer, prayer...pray, pray, pray...and, what're the results? NOTHING!

The way I understand prayer, you're praying to a supernatural God who is going to respond in a supernatural way. This God knows everything about you including why and what you are praying (for). That said, why bother praying? The results will be the same! NOTHING!

And, you folks will never accept the reality! PRAYER DOESN'T AND CAN'T WORK!!!!! It's never worked and it never will.

And, I might add, when you get on your knees, close your eyes, put your hands together, and start praying, you look like a dork. Hey, maybe I should start a dork award to add to the craphead award.

Yes, I'm a little ticked off.

OK, something of a little secret. Yep, I know what Trump was praying! Yes, he wants more babes.

OK, I Think Today is Ash Wednesday...Yep, the Afflicted Get an X (OK, it's a Cross) on Their Head!!!

OK, I surely know little about Lent. That said, I think it has something to do to

acknowledge His resurrection or some such thing. And, 40 days in the desert. Well, anyway. I think you folks who get the ash X (cross) look like dorks! Period.

Why do you do it? Maybe want to make sure if God is monitoring you He'll know you've signed on to the program?

Back to the Easter deal. God caused or allowed his Son to be crucified so that our sins can be mitigated? Wow, these are the sins that came about because God put a talking snake in the Garden so that Adam and Eve would eat an apple. Dang, does that make any sense to you?

OK, yes, this is most likely pretty lame but don't nitpick.

Anyway, if you have an X (cross) on your forehead, take a look in the mirror. Don't you look like a dork? Oh, well.....

EDIT: My friend Michelle just sent me an email saying Ash Wednesday WAS February 14th. Dang, apologies to all. Maybe that's why religion didn't work for me, I couldn't figure out all of the dates. Oh, well.

OK, Maybe I Shouldn't Do This...But, I will....

And, no...this surely isn't funny (OK, maybe a little,
ahh, well...not sure). That said, I hope Melania can come to grips with all of this. And, no, I'm surely not a fan of hers...but, she's in a crappy situation we shouldn't wish on anyone. And, of course, this mess is being played out to our country and the world. It's a wonder she doesn't go in hiding.

Yes, my take in 55-words.

Melania Rushed into the Oval Office

“Hi, honey.”

“Don’t, Hi honey me!”

“What’s wrong, dear?”

“I may be naive, but I’m not blind. I watched 60 minutes. And, there’s also the Playmate.”

“That’s really nothing. Even Sarah Sanders said so.”

“I’m going to New York, permanently. Do you have anything to say?”

“Well, ahh, have you had an STD test recently?”

EDIT: Yes, I could have said she stormed into the office.

A Little Levity, Perhaps? Trump, the President Who Keeps Giving....

You should read this article by Ana Navarro.

This Post From "A Gathering of Fools"..... One of My Old Blogs......

I was rummaging around on an old blog. Yes, one of many that I have. It only has two entries. Here's one for you folks to read, if you're so inclined. I posted this, September 1, 2007. (Dang, I've been writing about this crap for a long time.)

In the Old Days it was the Snake Oil Salesmen....Today the New Age Folks Have Replaced Them...Instead of Pedaling Their Shams in Bottles, they use Chi, Chakras, Balancing, Centering, Mind-Body, Energy Healing, Crystals, and any and all Bogus Things They can Dream of....They no Longer Wear Top Hats and Smell of Whiskey...Today They Wear Robes, White Jackets, and Spout Every Kind of Meaningless and Mindless Drivel They can Conjure up.....

You Know What? It Is Pretty Pathetic that There are Sites Like This One!!!!!

Anyway, I will admit that I'm pretty pissed as I write this. To vent some of my anger I'll use energy healing. Think about that for a minute...energy healing. Yep, Reiko, Jin Shin Do, BodyTalk, and on and on..... Yes, all of these whack jobs say they can heal you by laying on of hands. Yep, it's that simple.

And, hey, this is the good one. Many say they can heal you without even seeing you. Now, that's something. Yes, from their living room they can send whatever it is, to you and make you well. And, folks...people believe this bullshit.....

Now, think about this for a minute. There are hundreds of these books out there. That there are. Hey, read this book and start healing folks. Does that make any sense???? Now if all we had to do is read a book and then start healing folks...well, wouldn't we have a world where everyone was healthy? Hey, shut down those hospitals...close those doctors' offices....

Think about that. Read a book and heal someone. Get a grip folks!!! What in the hell is wrong with you?

Now, let's just say for a moment you could do this...no, that's not going to work. Hey, you'd be one of those whack jobs walking around with a blank stare. OK. Let's say I could do this.

Yes, I could heal folks with this energy business. What would be the first thing I'd do? Hmmmm. Good question. First off I'd be shooting the rays off 24 hours a day healing people. Yep, I wouldn't close down..the rays would be shooting out 24/7.

Next. Yep, I'd be banging on the doors of the AMA. That I would. Hey, folks.....I can heal people. Now, the first thing I'd do after showing them that I could heal people is to go to all of the insurance companies and have them put me on their provider list. Surely, they'd do that. Hey, why should they pay real doctors when I can heal people for just a few bucks. See where I'm going here, folks.

Now. What next? This is the good one.

I'd be banging on James Randi's door and take the million bucks from him. Yes, The James Randi Foundation (JREF) has a million bucks waiting for anyone who can show that this energy business works. Ask yourself, out of the thousands upon thousands of so-called energy healers out there, why hasn't one of them taken Mr. Randi's $1,000,000?

Oh, well. I feel a little better now........ Wake up out there folks, have one of your spirit guides clue you in!!!!

Yes, we put folks on the moon but....look around you........a sad state of affairs.

Yes, Our Government's Pissin' Away More Money.... This Time on So-called Psychics!

Here's the CBS article.

Most honest-to-gosh
scientists would never get involved in anything of this kind. They would never try to test something that makes absolutely no sense. In all of the years of so-called psychics wandering around...there's never been even one that proved to actually have psychic abilities. Geller was mentioned in the article. He and I have the same abilities.

Speaking of Geller. I'm amazed that he went from talk show to talk show using his mind to bend spoons. Bend spoons! Dang, that's truly useful. Hey, Uri, next time we need a spoon bent we'll call you.

Here's a great article about James Randi that discusses Geller.

Can't get this posting organized the way I want. Sorry. Anyway, watch the James Randi video and learn how to bend stuff....

Here's another video. Hedrick is amazing. He goes from show-to-show making a pencil move and making a page in a phone book flop over. Of course, he's blowing. Again, and no one ever said, Can't you use your terrific psychic powers for something a little more practical?

OK, Folks, I am Now "Identifying (don't you just love that word?)" as a Humanist! Pretty Cool, Hey?

Let's not kid ourselves. Most folks just don't like atheists. And, that's a fact. If I am ever asked about my religion I'm going to say, I'm a humanist. Frankly, I doubt if many folks will know what that means.
Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence (rationalism and empiricism) over acceptance of dogma or superstition. The meaning of the term humanism has fluctuated according to the successive intellectual movements which have identified with it.[1] The term was coined by theologian Friedrich Niethammer at the beginning of the 19th century to refer to a system of education based on the study of classical literature ("classical humanism"). Generally, however, humanism refers to a perspective that affirms some notion of human freedom and progress.
In modern times, humanist movements are typically non-religious movements aligned with secularism, and today humanism typically refers to a nontheistic life stance centred on human agency and looking to science rather than revelation from a supernatural source to understand the world.[2][3]
The above is from Wikipedia.

Contrary to what the fundamentalists would have us believe, then, what our society really needs is not more religion but a richer notion of the nature of morality.Humanism is compatible with atheism and agnosticism, but being atheist or agnostic does not automatically make one a humanist.

Atheism does only mean lack of belief in gods. Humanism means a philosophical stance that focuses on the value and agency of human beings. However atheism and humanism accord with one another very well, which is the reason that a lot of people are atheists and (secular) humanists at the same time.

Humanists believe that this is the only life of which we have certain knowledge and that we owe it to ourselves and others to make it the best life possible for ourselves and all with whom we share this fragile planet.
