The Beginning....

The Beginning....
When William Least Heat-Moon toured the country many years ago, his steed, if you will, was a van that he named Ghost Dancing. His journey of America was 13,000 miles. His book is Blue Highways, A Journey Into America. My steed will be a Subaru WRX (traded for an XV Crosstrek). My travels will be, what in the past were called, the blue highways of Virginia. Years ago, maps showed secondary roads in blue. Yes, the ones less traveled.

The Third Fifty-Five Word Story

 Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen

“Captain Jones, welcome aboard Acme’s flight 624. We’ll cruise at 35,000 feet. Hope we don’t have turbulence, as that stuff really scares me. If we’re lucky, we’ll be in Chicago in a couple of hours.

Oh! Co-pilot informed me we’re scheduled for NY. Dang, I always get them confused. Relax, the drinks are on us.”

This story is one of my favorites. This idea just popped-up, I guess I would say. Well, it was shortly after talking with a pal whose son was just hired to fly a small commercial plane as first officer/copilot. The planes he’ll be flying hold about 75 passengers.

Should say I haven’t flown in many, many years. Yep, terrified of heights and getting up in the air. Will say that as a kid I was occasionally on flying status and flew on B-47s. After the service, I did solo in a Cessna. But, alas, now, no flying for me and I shy away from tall buildings.

Week Two. Yes, Another Fifty-Five Word Story.

They Had Been Together for Ten Years

Had their ups and downs, but seemed to make the relationship work.
Lately, she didn’t seem herself. He asked her about it, but she had no response.
Woke one morning and she was gone. What had he done, he wondered?
Phone rang. “Hello.”
“We have your puppy. Luckily, your phone number was on her collar.”

OK, I had this with the animal stories (in the third book I'm working on). Then decided it would be better with relationships. Hey, I hope the last line will give you a laugh when you learn she’s a pup.
