The Beginning....

The Beginning....
When William Least Heat-Moon toured the country many years ago, his steed, if you will, was a van that he named Ghost Dancing. His journey of America was 13,000 miles. His book is Blue Highways, A Journey Into America. My steed will be a Subaru WRX (traded for an XV Crosstrek). My travels will be, what in the past were called, the blue highways of Virginia. Years ago, maps showed secondary roads in blue. Yes, the ones less traveled.

Where to Visit?

February 21, 2014

Think I'll start with a day trip to the Virginia Diner in Waverly. Over the years I've visited several times. Great Southern-type food. I always get fried chicken and collards. About an hour drive each way.

The train museum in Roanoke.

D-Day Memorial in Bedford. Would stay at the Peaks of Otter, most likely.

Of course, I want to go to Floyd; however, will wait until there's no chance of snow. I surely don't want to drive in snow with the summer tires that are on my car. My '04 had A/S tires that seem to work fine in snow.

Oh, yeah, want to get to the Tail of the Dragon which is in western NC.

Day trips, sound pretty good, too.
Yorktown, haven't been there in years.
Lots of places on the Eastern Shore.
Surry, with the ferry ride to Jamestown.
  Smithfield.
