The Beginning....

The Beginning....
When William Least Heat-Moon toured the country many years ago, his steed, if you will, was a van that he named Ghost Dancing. His journey of America was 13,000 miles. His book is Blue Highways, A Journey Into America. My steed will be a Subaru WRX (traded for an XV Crosstrek). My travels will be, what in the past were called, the blue highways of Virginia. Years ago, maps showed secondary roads in blue. Yes, the ones less traveled.

We Don't Need No Women Tryin' to Race no Race Cars!!!!

Have you folks heard that old bromide? You know, Women...well, they don't know nutin
about no cars!!!! Yes, that's the mindset of many guys. I won't go into the whys of that type of thinking. Maybe for another time.

I watch many types of racing and rarely miss a NASCAR race. And, there's the ongoing discussion about Danica Patrick.

She ain't no real racer. She ain't never gonna win a race. Look where she finishes.

Many folks, avid fans among them, forget or can't understand that having a NASCAR team is a BUSINESS. This isn't Saturday-night hobby racing at your local 1/4 mile dirt track.

So, I'll ask you. Would you rather have Danica, who brings in 20 million (as an example) in sponsors and often finishes 20th or so, or would you rather have a young hot-shot racer who finishes in the top ten but brings in 2 million in sponsor money?

That said, I'd like to introduce you to Sabine Schmitz, who is known as the Queen of the Nürburgring.

Sabine starts toward the back of the pack and gets them all.
She's driving a Porsche 911. She's the type of driver that
regardless of where you are on the track, she's going to pass you.

This is a great video. Sabine out for a Sunday Drive
in a god-awful fast Porsche 991, having a
great time.

Jeremy, from Top Gear, drove a Jaguar around the
'Ring. Sabine said she'd best his time driving an
ordinary transit van. Two parts.

OK, one more. The best of Sabine.........
