The Beginning....

The Beginning....
When William Least Heat-Moon toured the country many years ago, his steed, if you will, was a van that he named Ghost Dancing. His journey of America was 13,000 miles. His book is Blue Highways, A Journey Into America. My steed will be a Subaru WRX (traded for an XV Crosstrek). My travels will be, what in the past were called, the blue highways of Virginia. Years ago, maps showed secondary roads in blue. Yes, the ones less traveled.

Religion and OUR Government....

I think all of us here in the US will agree that we've had some changes over the last few years.

Yes, folks of the same gender can marry, homosexuals may serve openingly in the service, recently a few ladies have passed the Ranger course, there are women serving on submarines, women are involved in combat, transgender folks are now given rights and so on.

And, yes, I can see where some of these changes may well make heads explode in those who are disabled by religion-those with the god virus.

I've always said, Believe what you want but don't drag your religious stuff into the government. And, that of course is what Clerk Davis is doing. She has invoked "God's authority," in refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay folks.  Isn't that special....

In a way it reminds me of all of those religious movies from years ago. You know the ones.....the Christians were dragged in to the coliseums and fed to the lions...or crucified. And, they all died with smiles on their faces. Terrific.

Today, I don't guess we can feed Davis to the lions...nope, we'll just piss away time and money taking her to court. As an elected official it would seem she can't be fired.

In a way I can sympathize with her, as her god virus can surely be likened to a mental illness.

Of course, those of her ilk are surely making her a martyr. Hmmm..... Wonder if she'll get 72 virgins. A certain irony, hey?

If interested, here's a link.

EDIT: Dang, this is interesting. This from NEWSER....  September 2, 2015

(NEWSER) – Does Kim Davis get an employee discount on marriage licenses? The Kentucky court clerk making headlines for her refusal to grant licenses to same-sex couples is now on her fourth marriage, reports US News & World Report, noting that the 49-year-old was divorced in 1994, 2006, and in 2008. Confusingly, court records state that Davis gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband—twins that were fathered by the man who became her third husband but were adopted by her second husband. The leader of the Liberty Counsel group, which is providing Davis with legal representation, tells US News that Davis' history isn't relevant because she made a fresh start when she converted to Christianity four years ago.

EDIT #2.... This lady obviously qualifies for one of my Craphead Awards, though I'm cutting her some slack because of her virus.

EDIT #3.... Here's a video.....
